Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif strongly condemns the treacherous terrorist attack that targeted a mosque in Katsina State, northern Nigeria, resulting in dozens of innocent worshippers being martyred and injured.
Al-Azhar affirms that targeting the houses of worship and shedding the blood of peaceful worshippers is a heinous crime that strips its perpetrators of all religious teachings and of every value of mercy and humanity.
It is also clear evidence of the bloody nature of extremist ideology, which disregards the sanctity of both religion and human life.
Al-Azhar reiterates its call for intensified international efforts to confront the dangers of terrorism and extremist thought, to safeguard places of worship against any attacks, and to protect societies from the evils of these deviant groups.
Al-Azhar also extends its heartfelt condolences and sincere sympathy to the government and people of Nigeria, as well as to the families of the victims, praying to Almighty Allah to encompass the martyrs with His vast mercy, grant the injured a swift recovery, and spread security and peace across the entire world.
