Al Ahly Newly-Signed Badr Banoun Opens up on his Transfer

Morocco's defender Badr Banoun, the newly signed by Al Ahly, said that he wishes to wear the number 13 shirt because it is his favorite number; he was keen to send a message to the Red Devils' fans.

Egypt's Al Ahly officially announced Wednesday evening the signing of Banoun in a contract that extends until the end of the summer of 2024.

In statements to the official Al Ahly website, the ex Morroco's Raja player expressed his happiness to join the Club of the Century, stressing his intention to fight alongside his teammates to write a new football history inside the Red Castle.

"Joining Al Ahly is a great honor," he said.

"I will do my best to make the Red team fans everywhere happy, and contribute to increasing the club’s tally of local and continental tournaments." he added.

Regarding his negotiations with the Red Castle, he said: "The matter was settled within 72 hours, I received a phone call from Amir Tawfik, the club's contract manager, who spoke to me about Al Ahly's desire to include me, and I assured him that playing for them would be a great honor."

He continued: "I spoke to my agent and the matter was settled quickly.. I preferred Al Ahly's offer to many African and Gulf offers, as it is difficult for any player to just think or hesitate in an offer coming from Al Ahly."

He went on saying: "Some North African players tend to play in European clubs, but the matter for me was different, as I had a strong desire to achieve the step of wearing the Al Ahly shirt."

Speaking of communication with his compatriot Waleed Azaro, the former Al Ahly player, he said: "I hoped he would be present in the team, especially that we have a strong relationship."

He continued: "Azaro spoke about me joining Al Ahly and strongly encouraged me to finalize this step. Azaro loves Al Ahly and adore its fans. I wish him success in his new journey with his Saudi club."

Asked about the shirt number he wishes to wear during his trip with the Red team, Banoun said: "I am waiting for the number 13 shirt because it is my favorite number."

Banoun then concluded his speech by sending a message to the Red Devils fans: "I am waiting for your support and I will never let you down .. I will fight for Al Ahly .. I promise you to do everything I have to obtain championships at all levels."
