A series of airstrikes have struck locations affiliated with Yemen’s Southern Transitional Council (STC), as political tensions escalate between the STC and the Presidential Leadership Council.
According to field reports, more than seven airstrikes hit the southern city of Al-Dhalea and other military sites of the STC over the past two days, resulting in casualties. A drone near the Ma’ashiq Presidential Palace was also intercepted by anti-air defenses, underscoring the intensifying security concerns in the region.
The STC’s leadership has resisted attending the Southern Dialogue Conference in Riyadh, despite a plane arriving with over 60 council leaders.
Meanwhile, “National Shield” forces have been ordered to take control of STC positions in Shabwah and Aden, including the Presidential Palace in Ma’ashiq. Troops have begun deploying in Abyan province, with no major confrontations reported so far, aided by prior airstrikes by the Saudi-led coalition targeting select STC sites.
