European aerospace firm Airbus announced Wednesday it was halting the supply of aircraft parts and services to Russian airlines after Russia invaded Ukraine.

Airbus added that it would be suspending support and delivery of spare parts, in line with international sanctions.

“We have suspended major operations in Moscow and temporarily closed our office in Kyiv. We are also suspending parts, maintenance, and technical support services for Russian airlines," the manufacturer said in a statement.

“As the conflict continues, our teams are focused on ensuring the safety of our teammates in the region.”

U.S. airplane manufacturer Boeing had also stopped working with Russian airlines on Tuesday after Joe Biden announced further US sanctions against Moscow, following Britain and the EU in banning Russian planes from its airspace.

On February 24, Russia launched a large-scale military attack on Ukraine.

The invasion has been condemned by many nations around the world, sparked a series of crippling economic sanctions targeting the Russian economy, caused bloodshed, and forced one million people to flee the country.
