Witnesses said that air strikes, tank, and artillery fire rocked the Sudanese capital (Khartoum) on Friday.

The witnesses added that the nearby city of Bahri was subjected to heavy shelling, despite the agreement of the army and the "rapid support" forces to extend the truce for 72 hours.

Hundreds were killed and tens of thousands fled to save their lives from the conflict between the army and the "Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which broke out on April 15.

In light of the continued violations of the ceasefire, which the United States described as "alarming," heavy gunfire and explosions rocked residential neighborhoods in the capital region, where fighting has focused over the past week.

A Reuters correspondent said that thick smoke rose over two areas in Bahri.

The Sudanese army is conducting air strikes with combat or drone aircraft against the "RSF" deployed in neighborhoods in the capital.

In a statement, Friday, the RSF accused the army of violating a truce agreement brokered by the United States and Saudi Arabia, by launching air strikes on its bases in Omdurman, the sister city of Khartoum located on the other bank of the Nile River, and the Jabal Awlia area.
