Air France announced on Friday that it extended the suspension of its flights to and from Bamako and Ouagadougou until August 18.

This came "following the coup d'état in Niger and due to the geopolitical situation in the Sahel region", the airline said on Friday.

Last week, the carrier stated that it was suspending flights to Mali and Burkina Faso until Friday inclusive, shortly after the closure of airspace in Niger.

The authorities in Mali and Burkina Faso support the perpetrators of the coup d'état in Niger on July 26.

This decision aligns with Air France’s precautionary measures to ensure the safety and security of passengers and reflects the growing concerns over the stability of the region.

France previously issued a warning to its citizens in Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger, urging them to exercise extreme caution and avoid traveling to these countries.
