Ahly and Zamalek played out a thrilling 2-2 draw in derby clash in the Egyptian Premier League on Sunday. The Reds were off to an impressive start when Mohamed Sherif capitalized on a poor clearance from Abdel Ghani on 12 minutes.
Ahly's caretaker coach Sami Komsan was out to prove a point following the sudden departure of South African boss Pitso Mosimane while Zamalek's veteran manager Jesualdo Ferreira played with conservative tactics due to an obvious gulf in class between both sides.
Al Ahly managed to hold out their rivals for the remaining stages of the first half, before the visitors got the next goal as Achraf Bencharki powered home a header from close range with the Reds' goal keeper standing by idle.
Zamalek made it 2-1 after another blunder from the goalkeeper before the Red Devils were back on level terms in the 80th minute when Salah Mohsen nodded home a cross also poorly managed by the Whites' defence.
The encounter left Zamalek top of the Egyptian Premier League standings, four points above Al Ahly, who sit fourth with three games less.
