Headed by His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Aziz bin Talal bin Abdul Aziz, the President of the Arab Gulf Programme for Development (AGFUND), a delegation from AGFUND participates in the events of COP28 hosted by the United Arab Emirates in Dubai from November 30th to December 12th, 2023.
AGFUND's participation, along with several strategic partners, includes having a pavilion that will host a series of panel sessions discussing vital topics such as improving food security through smallholder farmers, energy transition and clean cooking, and the role of civil society in climate change. Additionally, the winners of the Prince Talal International Prize for Human Development will be presenting their pioneering projects.
Moreover, speakers and participants in the sessions include experts, representatives of United Nations and international organizations, as well as heads of institutions from the Arab Coordination Group (ACG) and sister institutions of AGFUND.
On the sidelines of the conference, AGFUND will hold the Award Ceremony of Prince Talal International Prize on Monday, December 4th, to honor the winning projects for the year 2022. The one million US dollars prize recognizes outstanding achievements in the field of "Decent Work and Economic Growth," the 8th goal of the Sustainable Development Goals.
This participation of AGFUND in COP is the second of its kind. Last year, AGFUND participated in COP27, which was held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. During that conference, AGFUND also held the ceremony of Prince Talal International Prize for Human Development for the year 2021, in which it honored the winners in the field of "Climate Action," the 13th goal of the Sustainable Development Goals.
It is worth mentioning that the nomination process for the current cycle of the Prize 2023 in the field of "Life on Land," the 15th goal of the Sustainable Development Goals is still open for nominations, and that it will be closed on January 15, 2024.
