Africa Day marks 25th of May every year to commemorate the foundation of the Organization of African Unity (OAU); currently known as the African Union (AU).
The main goal of establishing this organization was to call for the African countries’ independence from the European colonization after the World War II.
In May 1963, 32 independent African countries signed the organization’s contract in Addis Ababa to show solidarity with other occupied ones.
In 2002, the organization’s name turned out to be the African Union and independent member countries increased to 55.
Member states are now cooperating to achieve peace, security, stability and sustainable development at all levels across the continent.
2063 Agenda
In line with Africa day, the African Union released 2063 Agenda to promote sustainable growth, peace and protecting human rights among African people. It’s remarkable that the celebrations this year coincide with Egypt’s presidency of the African Union
