On Sunday, the organizing board of "Aflemha" festival announced the final dates of the its first edition that will commence from 28 January to 4 February. It will be the first online festival for underground cinema.
Iconic Egyptian actress Samah Anwar is the president of the festival and the head of the jury. A number of celebrated filmmakers and stars are included in the jury such as actress Dorra, D.O.P. Kamal Abdel Aziz, author Abdel Rehim Kamal, and director Ahmed Atef.
Anwar revealed during the conference that the first edition of the festival will be held under the theme of "Women Cinema."
A number of tributes will take place such as honoring legendary actress Youssra, and iconic actor Mahmoud Hemida for their continued efforts in supporting the underground cinema.
Regarding the idea of the festival, Anwar explained that the festival will give filmmakers the chance to stream their films on the festival's platform and allow to the audience watching the films after paying the price of a watching ticket such as the cinema ticket.
She also highlighted that such festival and platform is the only solution for supporting underground cinema as the filmmakers will get almost 90% from the film's gains giving them financial support.
Furthermore, Anwar expressed that establishing an online festival is cheaper than actual events and giving better chances for filmmakers.
