In a series of operations targeting important figures in a wave of attacks in Kabul, the Afghan Taliban killed eight ISIS terrorists and captured nine others, according to a senior Taliban official on Thursday.
The operations on Wednesday in the capital city and the western Nimroz province, according to the Taliban's spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, were directed at ISIS militants who had recently planned attacks on Kabul's Longan Hotel, Pakistan's embassy, and the military airport.
Eight ISIS terrorists, including foreign nationals, were slain and seven others were detained in Kabul, while two additional ISIS members were detained as a consequence of a separate operation in the western Nimroz province, according to Mujahid.
In a tweet, Mujahid stated that "these members played a significant part in the assault on the Chinese hotel and paved the way for foreign IS members to enter Afghanistan."
A horrific attack that occurred Sunday near a checkpoint at the military airport in the Afghan capital was blamed on the terrorist organisation ISIS. The Longan Hotel attack in mid-December was allegedly carried out by the same terrorist, according to ISIS.
Since the Taliban took control of the country in 2021, the regional branch of ISIS—called as ISIS in Khorasan Province and a major enemy of the terrorist organisation known as the Taliban—has expanded its activities in Afghanistan. Taliban patrols and Shiite Afghans have both been targeted in the past.
