The African Continental Free Trade Area Secretariat and African Export-Import Bank have welcomed Togo’s announcement of new visa facilitation measures for African nationals, describing the move as an important step toward deeper continental integration.

In a joint statement issued during Biashara Afrika 2026 in Lomé, the two institutions praised the government of Togo under the leadership of Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé for introducing measures that would facilitate visa-free entry for nationals of African states holding valid passports.

The announcement was made by Togo’s Minister of Security on May 18 on the sidelines of Biashara Afrika 2026, a major continental platform bringing together policymakers, investors, business leaders and regional stakeholders to promote intra-African trade and investment.

According to the statement, participants throughout the forum stressed the importance of easing the movement of African citizens, entrepreneurs and investors as a key driver of economic cooperation and regional trade growth.

The AfCFTA Secretariat and Afreximbank said the initiative reflects growing momentum across the continent toward improving connectivity and advancing African integration. Both organisations reiterated their shared vision of an Africa where goods, services, capital and people can move more freely across borders to support a unified continental market.

They added that measures enhancing mobility and regional connectivity contribute directly to the broader goals of Agenda 2063, the African Union’s long-term development framework.

The two institutions also commended Togo for hosting Biashara Afrika 2026 and reaffirmed support for the country’s efforts to strengthen Africa’s economic integration agenda.
