Poland announced that an advanced group of additional US forces, which the administration of President Joe Biden recently decided to deploy to Eastern Europe, have arrived in the country.
The Polish Ministry of Defense confirmed on its Twitter account today, Friday, that preparations are underway to receive the basic forces within a brigade-sized combat group of the US 82nd Airborne Division.
The ministry continued: "An advanced group has been deployed in Poland, and in total, 1.7 thousand American soldiers will arrive here."
The Polish ministry stressed that this deployment sends a "strong signal of solidarity, in response to the situation in Ukraine."
The United States announced last Wednesday the deployment of additional American forces in Eastern Europe, including about 1,000 soldiers who will be transferred from Germany to Romania, and about 2,000 soldiers to be deployed in Germany and Poland, against the backdrop of the current escalation between Russia and NATO over Ukraine.
Russia condemned this decision, warning that it exacerbates the already escalating military tensions in Europe.
