Acclaimed composer Youssef Abbas is making a landmark entry into Hollywood as the first Arab musician to contribute to the score of a major American drama series for HBO Max, signaling a notable moment for Arab artistry on the global stage.

Abbas is composing and orchestrating the soundtrack for "Debriefing the President", an upcoming political drama adapted from the book by former CIA analyst John Nixon.

The series is directed and executive produced by Lesli Linka Glatter and stars Joel Kinnaman alongside acclaimed Arab actor Waleed Zuaiter, known for his performances in internationally recognized productions.

At the heart of Abbas’s work is a richly layered musical vision that blends sweeping orchestral arrangements with subtle influences drawn from Iraqi musical heritage, creating a sonic landscape that bridges cultures while deepening the emotional texture of the drama.

His compositional style fuses Eastern maqam traditions with contemporary Western symphonic structures, using strings, percussive tension and atmospheric motifs to amplify the psychological intensity of the narrative.

Beyond its artistic ambition, the project highlights the growing presence of Arab creatives within international entertainment, where musicians are increasingly shaping the artistic language of global productions rather than serving in supporting roles alone.

For Abbas, "Debriefing the President" represents more than a Hollywood credit. It marks a cultural crossover that places an Arab composer within one of the most competitive and influential spaces in screen music today, while opening the door for broader representation of Middle Eastern musical identity in mainstream international drama.
