Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Abu Ghout discussed his memoirs A Witness to War and Peace and My Testimony during a panel at the 57th Cairo International Book Fair, offering reflections on decades of diplomatic and political experience in the Arab world.
Held at the fair’s International Hall, the discussion was attended by Egypt’s Minister of Culture Ahmed Fouad Hanno, alongside a large audience of diplomats, intellectuals and researchers. Former Egyptian diplomat Mohamed Hegazy, political thinker Abdel Moneim Said and strategic analyst Khaled Okasha took part in the panel.
Abu Ghout shared personal accounts and pivotal moments from his career, addressing regional conflicts, crisis management and the role of diplomacy in shaping Arab positions. The panel also highlighted the translation of the two books into seven foreign languages as an effort to document history and transfer experience to future generations.
Hanno said the event reflected the book fair’s role as a major platform for serious cultural and intellectual dialogue in the region.
