Mohamed Abu El-Enein, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean and Deputy Speaker of Egypt's House of Representatives, stressed that the world and the Middle East are going through a highly critical phase, pointing to the threat of Israeli aggression to peace and stability in the region.

This came during the meeting of the Bureau of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean, held in Sharm El-Sheikh from September 11 to 14, with the participation of Counsellor Dr. Hanafy Gebaly, Speaker of Egypt's House of Representatives, and Counsellor Ahmed Manaa, Secretary-General of the House of Representatives.

Abu El-Enein stated that opportunities for peace are weakening day by day, with challenges increasing amid an unarmed civilian population in Palestine that is fighting, being killed, and forced into displacement.

He added, “We are at a real crossroads, and it is time to take action to end this. We must move beyond condemnation to stop Israeli arrogance, stop the violence and destruction, and return once again to negotiations.”

He pointed out that the solution is clear and that peace in the Middle East can be achieved if intentions are genuine.

“But we have not seen any genuine intentions; instead, we see killing, humiliation, and displacement of the Palestinian people, as well as more occupations every day, whether in Lebanon, Syria, or elsewhere,” he said.

Abu El-Enein affirmed that under such developments, the peace process in the Middle East is at risk of full collapse.
