The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and President of Syria Bashar Al-Assad discussed by phone the implications of the spread of the novel coronavirus.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed stated on his official Twitter account that “I discussed by phone with the Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad the repercussions of the spread of the coronavirus, and assured him of the support of the UAE and its assistance to the brotherly Syrian people in these exceptional circumstances.”
“Humanitarian solidarity in times of adversity is above all else, and brotherly Arab Syria will not remain alone in these critical circumstances,” he added.
The Emirates News Agency said that the two sides discussed, during the call, the developments of the coronavirus, widely known as COVID-19, in the region and the world, and the precautionary measures taken in both countries to address this epidemic and the possibility of assisting and supporting Syria in this regard in a manner that ensures overcoming the epidemic and protecting its brotherly people.
On his part, President Assad welcomed the initiative of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, valuing the humanitarian position of the United Arab Emirates in light of what the region and the world are witnessing from this emerging challenge.
He also affirmed his welcome for this cooperation during this circumstance and praised this initiative with all its lofty meanings.
Earlier in last December, a United Arab Emirates diplomat hailed Assad’s “wise leadership,”describing relations between the two Arab countries as “solid and special.”
The latest remarks was made by Charge d’affaires Abdul-Hakim Naimi during a ceremony held in Damascus to mark UAE’s National Day.
In what seemed as a sign of mutual relations improvement, the UAE reopened its embassy in Damascus in December 2018 for the first time in seven years.
Naimi said he hopes that “peace, security and stability will prevail Syria under the shadow of the wise leadership”of El Assad.
