Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, welcomed the ceasefire agreement in Gaza and extended his gratitude to the mediating nations—Egypt, Qatar, and the United States.

Gamal Roshdy, the official spokesman for the Secretary-General, stated that the immediate priority following the agreement's implementation is ensuring the entry of the largest possible amount of humanitarian aid into Gaza, alongside the swift return of displaced individuals to their homes, particularly in the northern regions.

Roshdy conveyed Mr. Aboul Gheit's assertion that the agreement must pave the way for a complete and permanent cessation of Israeli military operations in Gaza.

He emphasised the necessity of strict adherence to the agreement's provisions at all stages, culminating in a full Israeli withdrawal from the Strip to the pre-1967 borders.

The Secretary-General reaffirmed that the West Bank and Gaza collectively constitute the territory of the future Palestinian state, rejecting any attempts to separate the two regions. He stressed that such efforts are categorically opposed by Palestine, the Arab world, and the international community.

Mr. Aboul Gheit reiterated that the two-state solution remains the sole viable path to ensuring that the devastating events endured by Palestinians and the broader region over recent months are not repeated. He added that the realisation of a Palestinian state would guarantee security and stability for both the Palestinian and Israeli peoples.

The spokesman further noted that reconstruction efforts must commence immediately following the early recovery phase, given the extensive destruction inflicted on Gaza during 14 months of relentless Israeli strikes that targeted critical infrastructure and all facets of life in the Strip.
