Ahmed Aboul Gheit Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, welcomed the adoption by Somalia’s parliament of the final constitution of the Somalia, describing it as a historic step toward strengthening state institutions and consolidating constitutional governance.
In a statement issued by the League of Arab States on Thursday, Aboul Gheit said the constitution’s entry into force marks an important milestone in completing the process of building Somali state institutions and reinforcing principles such as the rule of law, separation of powers, and respect for fundamental rights and freedoms.
Arab League spokesman Gamal Roshdy said Aboul Gheit emphasized that the move reflects a broad national effort by the Somali people and their institutions to strengthen political stability, reaffirm the country’s unity, and promote good governance.
He added that the Arab League would continue supporting the Somali government and parliament in efforts aimed at enhancing security, strengthening democratic institutions, and advancing development and stability in Somalia and the wider region.
