Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit used his final appearance before the Arab League Council at the ministerial level on Monday to warn of mounting threats facing the Arab world, including regional conflicts, foreign interference and the ongoing war in Gaza.
Addressing the council’s resumed 165th ordinary session in Amman, Aboul Gheit said the region remains surrounded by instability despite its vast human and economic potential. Reflecting on his decade in office, he cited the lasting impact of conflicts that erupted after 2011, which led to mass displacement, civil wars and growing humanitarian crises.
Aboul Gheit reaffirmed that the Palestinian cause remains central to the Arab world, condemning Israel’s actions in Gaza and reiterating support for a two-state solution as the only path to lasting peace.
He also stressed that the Arab League remains indispensable as a platform for collective Arab action, coordination and regional security cooperation.
