Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, strongly condemned reports that the northwestern region of the Federal Republic of Somalia — the so-called "Somaliland region" — intends to open an embassy in occupied Jerusalem to the Israeli occupation state, describing the move as legally null and void in every respect, devoid of any legal effect, and an unacceptable provocation to both the Arab and Islamic worlds.
Gamal Roshdy, the official spokesperson for the Secretary-General, stated that such rapprochement reflects the extent of the isolation facing the Israeli occupation authorities and their desperate attempts to solicit illegitimate recognition from entities or regions lacking any lawful status, in pursuit of entrenching their illegal occupation of East Jerusalem, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip, while diverting attention from the daily crimes committed against the Palestinian people.
The spokesperson further stressed that persisting in this course constitutes a flagrant assault on the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia, in clear violation of the principle of respect for the unity and territorial integrity of states, and an unacceptable infringement on the sovereignty of a member state of the League of Arab States, the African Union, and the United Nations.
Roshdy warned that such efforts aimed at expanding influence in the Horn of Africa risk exacerbating tensions and instability in the region, reaffirming the Arab position's steadfast support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia, and its categorical rejection of any attempts to entrench a separatist reality or establish illegitimate relations with entities unrecognised under international law.
