Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, warned that "the situation could slide the region into unprecedented trajectories," stressing that “hardened positions could lead to catastrophic scenarios from which no party would be immune.”

In a press statement on 7 April, Mr. Aboul Gheit stressed “the necessity for all parties to act responsibly at this critical juncture and to work to spare the region disasters whose repercussions would inevitably endure for years.”

The Secretary-General further noted that “the ceiling of demands on both the American and Iranian sides does not appear conducive to reaching a settlement,” appealing to mediators to “exert every possible effort to bridge the gap between positions in order to salvage the situation and spare the region as a whole the consequences of destruction and devastation.”

Mr. Aboul Gheit also stressed that “Iranian threats to target vital facilities in Arab states are wholly unacceptable and unequivocally condemned,” warning Tehran against “persisting in its hostile and unlawful policies toward the Arab region,” and calling on Iranian leaders to “reflect carefully on the day after the war and the enduring legacy of resentment and animosity that such reckless policies leave among neighbours.”
