Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit on Tuesday called for positive international engagement with Sudan’s peace initiative presented to the United Nations Security Council, describing it as a serious and constructive framework to end the conflict.
In a statement, Aboul Gheit welcomed the address by Sudan’s transitional prime minister, saying the initiative reflects a clear commitment to stopping the war, protecting civilians, and easing humanitarian suffering while preserving Sudan’s unity and sovereignty.
League spokesperson Gamal Roshdy said the Arab League supports calls for a comprehensive ceasefire, unhindered humanitarian aid, and measures addressing internally displaced people and refugees. He added that disarmament and reintegration efforts are essential to rebuilding trust and social cohesion.
The Arab League also emphasized inclusive Sudanese-led dialogue, national reconciliation, and cooperation with the United Nations, African Union, and international partners to support lasting peace and stability.
