Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit called for urgent international and Arab action to support Palestinians, particularly in Gaza, as he opened a high-level Arab conference on implementing the declaration of the Second World Summit for Social Development.
Speaking in the Jordanian capital, Aboul Gheit praised Jordan’s leadership for hosting the meeting and stressed that rebuilding Gaza’s social fabric is “a top social priority,” describing continued suffering, displacement and humanitarian shortages despite a ceasefire.
He said Arab countries must mobilize their economic and social capacities to support Palestinians and ensure their resilience in the face of occupation.
Aboul Gheit also highlighted the Arab League’s role in shaping priorities adopted in the Doha Declaration, calling the Amman conference a launch point for implementation through clear timelines. He emphasized the Arab Vision 2045 as a long-term framework placing people at the center of inclusive, sustainable social development.
