Aboul Gheit Strongly Condemns Israeli Aggression Against Lebanon

Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, condemned in the strongest terms the brutal Israeli aggression against Lebanon, the continued encroachment upon Lebanese territory, the ongoing destruction of villages and historical landmarks in southern Lebanon, and the targeting and displacement of civilians in a flagrant violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty and a serious breach of international law and international humanitarian law.

Gamal Roshdy, the official spokesperson for the Secretary-General, stressed the urgent need for an immediate halt to this brutal Israeli aggression, which poses a serious threat to security and stability in the region. He affirmed the importance of the United Nations Security Council assuming its responsibilities in this regard and obliging Israel to cease fire and fully implement Security Council Resolution 1701.

The spokesperson further asserted the League of Arab States' solidarity with Lebanon and its people, and its support for the Lebanese state in addressing the consequences of this aggression. He reiterated the League’s backing for all measures undertaken by the Lebanese government to restore security and stability and to extend state sovereignty over its entire territory, including its call upon the Security Council to work towards an immediate ceasefire, the full Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon, and the facilitation of the return of displaced persons to their areas and homes.
