Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, strongly condemned the continuous Israeli attacks on Lebanon, and the continued targeting of Lebanese infrastructure and bridges, in a flagrant violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty, security, and stability, and a clear breach of international law.
The Secretary-General’s official spokesperson, Gamal Roshdy, stated that Israel’s objectives have become exposed in its pursuit of establishing a buffer zone in southern Lebanon, and in its systematic policy aimed at fragmenting Lebanon’s territorial integrity and displacing its people. He stressed the responsibility of the United Nations Security Council to put an end to these Israeli attacks, to halt them immediately, and to compel Israel to respect international law and relevant Security Council resolutions, including the full and unqualified implementation of Security Council Resolution 1701.
The spokesperson further conveyed the Secretary-General’s concern over the escalating tensions in Lebanon as a result of the Israeli aggression, affirming the League of Arab States’ support for all efforts undertaken by the Lebanese state to preserve civil peace and to address the severe humanitarian crisis facing the country and its serious social repercussions, including through the Councils of Arab Ministers of Health and Social Affairs.
