Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, met with António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, at UN headquarters in New York to discuss recent regional developments and rising tensions.
According to the Arab League, the talks focused on the latest developments related to the U.S.-Israeli military actions against Iran and attacks affecting Gulf states. Aboul Gheit stressed that such actions against countries not involved in the conflict cannot be justified and called for a firm international stance to halt the escalation immediately.
The meeting also underscored the importance of a UN Security Council resolution to safeguard freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Aboul Gheit is expected to deliver a briefing before the Security Council on cooperation between the United Nations and the Arab League.
