The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, met with Mohamed Takala, President of Libya's High Council of State to discuss accelerating a comprehensive political settlement for the conflict-torn nation.
The meeting, held on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, focused on advancing a Libyan-led process aimed at national stability and unity.
Gamal Roshdy, spokesperson for the Secretary-General, said in a statement Sunday that Aboul Gheit reaffirmed the Arab League's commitment to supporting efforts that lead to national elections and the unification of Libya’s military institutions.
"The Secretary-General asserted that the solution in Libya must be an exclusively Libyan-led process, headed by an inclusive national leadership and supported by the United Nations and the League of Arab States," Roshdy said.
During the briefing, Takala outlined his vision for Libya's current political, constitutional, and economic priorities. He highlighted a long-term reconciliation initiative endorsed by the High Council of State designed to address the root causes of internal division.
Takala commended the Arab League’s consistent stance on preserving Libya’s unity and the independence of its national decision-making.
The talks come as international mediators continue to push for a breakthrough in Libya's long-standing political deadlock, which has seen the country split between rival administrations for years.
