Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, held a telephone conversation with His Excellency Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, during which they discussed developments in Somalia and the region, particularly the risks posed by Israeli penetration into the Horn of Africa region.

Both sides condemned reports concerning the move by the authorities of the northwestern region known as "Somaliland" to open an embassy to the Israeli occupying state and in occupied Jerusalem, considering such a step legally null and void, as well as a provocation to the sentiments of millions across the Arab and Islamic worlds. They also stressed the need for concerted efforts to confront this move.

Gamal Roshdy, the official spokesperson for the Secretary-General, stated that both sides stressed their commitment to supporting stability and peace in the region, as well as the necessity of preserving Somalia's sovereignty, stability, and territorial integrity, and rejecting any attempt by any party to undermine the sovereignty of a state that is a member of the League of Arab States, the African Union, and the United Nations.

Roshdy added that Mr. Aboul Gheit reaffirmed the League of Arab States' commitment to providing full support to Somalia in all measures it may undertake to confront any pressures or attempts threatening its sovereignty and territorial unity. He noted that the League of Arab States has repeatedly affirmed, in all its resolutions, its support for the unity and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia, as well as its backing for all efforts undertaken by the federal government to strengthen and advance national dialogue in pursuit of political consensus and stability in a manner that fulfils the interests and aspirations of the Somali people.
