Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, addressed the Indian Council of World Affairs on Friday, emphasizing the "deep historical ties" and untapped economic potential between India and the Arab world.
Speaking on the changing global landscape, Aboul Gheit identified energy, digital technology, and services as key areas for expanded cooperation. He also addressed regional instability, warning that the spread of militias threatens state unity and called for urgent political solutions to restore order.
On the Palestinian cause, Aboul Gheit commended India’s support for international law and a two-state solution. He highlighted a UN-adopted peace plan as a "positive development" toward ending two years of conflict in Gaza, urging a swift transition to its implementation phase.
Reflecting on the shifting global order, Aboul Gheit noted that current rapid developments make the future difficult to predict, concluding that "history has never witnessed the eternal continuity of any empire."
