Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, is set to travel to Sharm El-Sheikh on Monday to attend the upcoming Peace Summit, co-chaired by Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and former U.S. President Donald Trump, the Arab League announced Sunday.
The summit, scheduled for October 13, aims to officially launch a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas as part of a broader effort to end the prolonged conflict in Gaza and begin reconstruction of the war-torn enclave, in line with the Trump plan.
Gamal Roshdy, spokesperson for the Arab League chief, quoted Aboul Gheit as saying that the agreement marks “the beginning of a path toward ending the bloodshed, restoring normal life in Gaza, and paving the way for an irreversible process toward achieving the two-state solution.”
Aboul Gheit expressed his gratitude to Egypt and the United States for their key roles in halting the violence, while extending appreciation to Qatar and Turkey for their mediation efforts aimed at ending the Palestinian bloodshed.
The Sharm El-Sheikh summit is expected to bring together regional and international leaders in a renewed push to stabilize Gaza and revive the stalled Middle East peace process.
