Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit praised on Wednesday the United Nations Security Council’s adoption of a resolution condemning recent Iranian attacks on Gulf nations and Jordan, calling the move a reflection of "global solidarity" with the Arab position.
In a telephone call with Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Aboul Gheit commended Bahrain’s diplomatic efforts. Bahrain, currently serving as the Arab representative on the Security Council, played a key role in mobilizing international support for the draft resolution.
Aboul Gheit emphasized that the continued Iranian targeting of civilian facilities in several Arab countries indicates a "persistence in miscalculation" and an involvement in regional conflicts that Tehran neither sought nor supported. He described the attacks as evidence of "political disorientation" in Tehran, warning of the long-term damage such "reckless policies" would have on Iran’s relations with its neighbors.
"Arab nations will not accept their lands or resources being used as an arena for settling regional scores," Aboul Gheit said, reaffirming that there is no justification for violating the sovereignty of independent states.
Gamal Rushdi, the official spokesperson for the Secretary-General, stated that the resolution passed with a significant majority of 13 votes. Rushdi noted that the result underscores a widespread international rejection of Iranian aggression and demonstrates clear alignment with the unified Arab stance on regional security.
