Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Raid on UNRWA Headquarters in East Jerusalem

Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit on Tuesday condemned an Israeli forces raid on the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) headquarters in East Jerusalem, calling it a “dangerous escalation” and part of a broader campaign to undermine the agency’s mandate.

Aboul Gheit said the operation, which targeted UNRWA’s main offices, reflects ongoing efforts by the occupation to dismantle the protection the agency provides for Palestinian refugees. His spokesperson, Gamal Roshdy, dismissed the raid’s stated justifications as lacking any legal or logical basis, describing the incident as a deliberate attempt to terminate UNRWA’s presence in the occupied Palestinian territory.

Roshdy urged the international community to act decisively to halt actions targeting the agency, which delivers essential health, education, and employment services to millions of Palestinian refugees. He noted the recent strong UN vote extending UNRWA’s mandate for an additional three years.
