Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, condemned in the strongest terms the blatant Israeli attacks and repeated incursions into Syrian territory, most recently the artillery shelling targeting the governorates of Quneitra and Daraa, which endangered the lives of civilians. He described these actions as a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of the Syrian Arab Republic and a clear breach of international law.
Gamal Roshdy, the official spokesperson for the Secretary-General, stressed that the continued violations by the Israeli occupation forces threaten to ignite the region as a whole, expand the fronts of conflict, and undermine efforts to restore security and stability.
The spokesperson added that Israel's policy of coercion through the use of force is unacceptable to the international community. He called upon the United Nations Security Council to discharge its responsibilities by putting an end to these aggressive practices and obliging Israel to abide by the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.
