Ahmed Aboul Gheit strongly condemned what he described as an Iranian drone attack targeting the strategic Port of Salalah in the Sultanate of Oman, warning that such actions threaten regional stability and civilian infrastructure in the Gulf.
In a statement issued Thursday, Aboul Gheit said the attack damaged several fuel storage tanks at the port and represented a dangerous escalation. He expressed shock that Oman — a country known for its mediation efforts aimed at preventing conflict in the region, including with Iran — would be targeted.
The Arab League chief warned that attacks on civilian facilities and vital energy infrastructure, along with risks of marine pollution caused by damaged oil tankers in the Gulf, could endanger desalination plants and the daily lives of civilians.
Arab League spokesman Gamal Roshdy said Aboul Gheit also rejected attempts to cast doubt on responsibility for the attack, stressing that such actions could deepen tensions and destabilize the Gulf region.
