The Egyptian-European Business Council, headed by Mohamed Aboul Enein, lauded on Wednesday the British government's decision to lift the ban on direct flights to Sharm El-Sheikh.

In a statement, Aboul Enein, the prominent businessman, thanked President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson for such great decision which came after prolonged talks, latest of which was during the G7 Summit, held in Biarritz in France as well as efforts exerted by UK Ambassador in Cairo Geoffrey Adams.

Resumption of flights to Sharm El Sheikh is a great and distinguished step in the deeply-rooted relations between the two countries, a matter which sends a message to the world that Egypt is safe and stable and considers a certificate for the Egyptian airports' safety standards.

"The British tour operators will work on organizing trips and doubling not only the number of UK tourists to Egypt but also, the European tourists," Aboul Enein pointed out.

"The British tourist has a great passion for Sharm El Sheikh," he noted, saying that as the number of the British tourists in 2018 reached 415,000 despite the ban.

He also expected that their number would increase to one million in 2020, wishing the resumption of the Russian flights to the Red Sea city as soon as possible.
