MP Mohamed Aboul Enein, Chairman of the Egyptian European Council, said that the issue of insulting Islam and prophet Muhammad is extremely dangerous and threatening to cut all bridges of cooperation between peoples and states.

Aboul Enein’s remarks came during his meeting today Thursday with members of the council in the presence of European Union Ambassador in Cairo Christian Berger and European ambassadors.

He added, "We respect freedom of expression, but we are totally against our religion and beliefs to be offended. I don't see it as freedom of expression, but rather a crime of insulting and slandering the right of 2 billion Muslims.

The prominent MP pointed out that such French abusive cartoons of Prophet Muhammad cannot be justified as fighting extremism. The primary beneficiaries of the attack on Islam are the extremists on both sides, and its only results in arousing feelings, fueling hostilities and creating a cycle of violence.

He also voiced his complete rejection of of every terrorist acts committed in the name of defending Islam, noting that terrorists are the ones who insult Islam and they have no religion.

The head of the Egyptian European Council welcomed statements made by France's President Macron and his foreign minister during the latter's visit to Egypt and his meeting with President Sisi and and Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, Sheikh Ahmed Al-Tayyeb.

Aboul Enein stressed the need to draw-up legislations in France and in all world countries criminalizing insult to religions and religious symbols.
