The meetings of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean (PA-UfM) will be officially launched on Friday, in Sharm El-Sheikh, hosted by the Egyptian House of Representatives with the participation of parliamentary delegations and speakers from around 43 member states.

The sessions will take place from 11 to 14 September, with wide Arab and international media coverage.

The opening session will feature a welcome address by Counselor Dr. Hanafy Gebaly, Speaker of the Egyptian House of Representatives, followed by a keynote speech from Mohamed Aboul Enein, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and President of the PA-UfM. His remarks will outline the Assembly’s roadmap, highlight pressing issues on the agenda, and frame the deliberations leading to the final recommendations. Egypt’s hosting of this major event underscores its commitment to parliamentary diplomacy and its role in advancing the Euro-Mediterranean partnership.

Discussions throughout the Assembly will focus on critical and sensitive challenges facing the Mediterranean region. Delegates are expected to propose a collective vision and recommendations aimed at strengthening economic and cultural cooperation across the Mediterranean, while also fostering collaboration among youth. Special emphasis will be placed on the role of modern technologies and artificial intelligence in laying new foundations for cooperation between the northern and southern shores of the Mediterranean.

The program includes a plenary session of the PA-UfM and meetings of its specialized committees on political, economic, social, and environmental affairs. The sessions will conclude on Sunday with the adoption of recommendations and the final communiqué.

In addition to parliamentary dialogue, the Egyptian Parliament has prepared a rich cultural and heritage program highlighting the diversity of Egyptian tourism and the country’s development achievements in recent years. Delegations will also join field visits to Saint Catherine’s Monastery, one of Egypt’s most iconic religious and historical landmarks, and take part in a boat trip along the shores of Sharm El-Sheikh.
