Egypt is advancing steadily toward becoming a modern industrial state under the leadership of Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, with universities playing a central role in shaping the country’s economic future, according to Member of Parliament Mohamed Abou El Enein.

Speaking at the opening of a major employment and training forum at Cairo University, Abou El Enein stressed that building a competitive, production-driven economy begins with preparing students to transform knowledge into tangible output and added value.

He told attendees that Egypt’s ambitions go beyond achieving economic growth, aiming instead to create a productive economy capable of competing globally. “The question is no longer what you studied, but what you added and how you turned knowledge into real work and production,” he said, urging students to focus on practical skills and measurable results.

Abou El Enein highlighted that global competitiveness today depends not only on natural resources, but on how efficiently they are managed and converted into economic value. He emphasised that education must translate into higher productivity, improved quality, and stronger export performance.

He also pointed to the rapid changes in global labour markets, noting that employers increasingly prioritise applied skills over purely theoretical qualifications. Continuous learning and adaptability, he added, are now essential for staying relevant in a fast-evolving world shaped by innovation and technology.

The Egyptian lawmaker praised ongoing efforts to modernise technical education and link it more closely with university systems, describing this integration as key to preparing a skilled workforce capable of meeting industry demands. He said the expansion of new industrial cities offers a model where education and training are embedded directly within production environments.

Drawing on his own experience in industry, Abou El Enein underlined the importance of continuous performance evaluation, quality improvement, and efficiency in achieving success in international markets.

He concluded by describing the creation of a “new industrial Egypt” as a national project that requires close cooperation between government institutions, universities, and the private sector.

At the end of the event, Cairo University honoured Abou El Enein for his contributions. He also announced the launch of 100 training and employment opportunities for students within Ceramica Cleopatra Group and Sada El Balad, with potential full-time positions for those who demonstrate strong performance—an initiative aimed at bridging the gap between education and the labour market.
