MP Mohamed Abou El-Enein, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean (PA-UfM), reaffirmed today that regional stability is inextricably linked to a "just and comprehensive" resolution of the Palestinian cause.
The Foundations of Global Security
In a decisive statement, Abou El-Enein emphasized that peace is not merely the absence of conflict but must be built on a foundation of justice. He asserted that any attempts to bypass the core issues of the conflict would not lead to a sustainable future.
"Peace will never be achieved unless it is a just and comprehensive peace," Abou El-Enein stated. "It is a principle that history and reality confirm every day."
Restoring Squandered Rights
The PA-UfM President highlighted that the restoration of the Palestinian people's rights is the primary prerequisite for any prevailing peace in the Middle East. He outlined the specific pillars required for this stability:
Sovereignty: The establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state on its own land.
Coexistence: A two-state solution where the Palestinian state lives side by side with the Israeli state in peace and security.
Justice: Addressing the "squandered rights" of the Palestinian people as a core requirement for ending the cycle of violence.
A Firm Vision for the Future
Abou El-Enein concluded by reiterating that there is no alternative path to security in the Mediterranean region and the world at large without these conditions being met.
"There will be no peace without this," he warned, calling on the international community and parliamentary bodies to uphold their responsibilities in supporting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people as the only gateway to a permanent and just peace.
