Abou El Enein: Egypt's Economic Experience Should Be Studied

Chairman of the Egyptian European Council MP Mohamed Abou El Enein said on Thursday Egypt's economic experience, under President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, should be studied around the world.

Abou El Enein's remarks came during a meeting with members of the council in the presence of European Union Ambassador in Cairo Christian Berger and European ambassadors.

"We are optimistic despite doubts because of the coronavirus pandemic, which rearranged the countries' priorities around the world." Abou El Enein underlined.

The council chairman pointed out that the European Union is the biggest trade partner for Egypt and the largest tourism market for Egypt.

The council chairman highlighted the Nile River crisis, which Egypt faces due to the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), calling for support from the European Union member states and press Ethiopia to reach a solution same the Trump administration of the United States' call.

"We are not against development, but we are against harming Egypt's water rights," Abou El Enein stressed.

He also shed light on the controversial issue of the caricatures insulting the Prophet Muhammad, saying the matter hurt the feelings of over two billion Muslims around the world.

The MP affirmed the right of freedom of expression, noting: "No one has the right to insult the religions and prophets."

He described such insults as a call for the terrorists to carry out attacks, a matter which is totally refused.

"I am set to raise the issue of criminalizing the act of insulting the religions and the prophets in the Egyptian House of Representatives," he affirmed.

Abou El Enein was awarded the council shield during the ceremony.
