Abou El Enein Chairs Union for the Mediterranean Assembly Meetings in Cairo

Mohamed M. Abou El Enein chaired the launch of the Bureau and Expanded Bureau meetings of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean, held on Saturday at the House of Representatives headquarters in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital.

The meetings bring together parliamentary leaders and representatives from across the Euro-Mediterranean region to review the assembly’s upcoming activities, alongside reports from committee heads outlining recent work and priorities. Participants are also exchanging views on key regional issues, including sensitive challenges facing the Mediterranean, while working toward recommendations to strengthen economic cooperation among member states.

During the sessions, Abou El Enein is set to deliver a keynote address to heads of participating delegations, focusing on practical steps to address urgent regional challenges and advancing implementation mechanisms for agreed priorities. The discussions will also cover final recommendations expected to emerge from the meetings.

Egypt’s hosting of the assembly reflects its continued commitment to parliamentary diplomacy and its broader efforts to enhance Euro-Mediterranean partnership and cooperation.

The Bureau of the Parliamentary Assembly is composed of the Egyptian presidency alongside vice presidents representing the European Parliament, the Spanish Parliament, and the Moroccan Parliament. The Expanded Bureau includes these members in addition to the chairs of the assembly’s standing committees, ensuring wider coordination across its institutional framework.
