Abel Ghaffar: Cairo Is Interested in Benefiting from Helsinki's Education Experience

CAIRO, Dec. 15 (SEE)- Higher Education Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar stressed the Higher Education Ministry’s interest in benefiting from the leading Finnish experience in education that made Finland top the global indicators.

Abdel Ghaffar remarks came during his meeting with Finnish Ambassador to Cairo LauraKansikas-Debraise and his accompanying delegation at the ministry headquarters.

Abdel Ghaffar expressed the ministry’s keenness to cooperate with Finland in the high-tech and engineering fields through which the Finnish universities have a good reputation.

The minister also hailed the unique ties between Cairo and Helsinki, including scientific and research relations.

Debraise, on her part, voiced her country’s interest in expanding horizons of cooperation with Egypt, particularly in the scientific and research domains.

The Finnish ambassador invited the Egyptian ambassador to visit Finland to get acquainted with the education system there, capabilities of the Finnish universities, and signing a memorandum of understanding.

Both officials discussed inking joint agreements between the Egyptian and Finnish universities, increasing the Finnish scholarships to Egyptian students and researchers in order to boost scientific cooperation.

During the meeting, they discussed the establishment of Finnish university branches in Egypt in light of the recent Egyptian law on setting up foreign universities here.
