Abdelatty Reaffirms Egypt’s Keenness on Reaching Ceasefire Agreement in Gaza

Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdelatty, reaffirmed Egypt's steadfast stance on the urgent need for a ceasefire in Gaza and the facilitation of a safe and sustainable flow of humanitarian assistance through all border crossings.

In a conversation with Sigrid Kaag, the UN Senior Humanitarian and Reconstruction Coordinator for Gaza, Abdelatty emphasized the critical necessity of addressing the severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza, which has been exacerbated by winter conditions, famine, and the looming threat of widespread disease.

He also highlighted the obligation of Israel, as the occupying power, to confront the humanitarian disaster and to withdraw from the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing, thereby allowing for the unimpeded delivery of aid.

The minister stressed the vital role of UNRWA in delivering essential services and urged the prompt implementation of financial commitments made during the recent Cairo Ministerial Conference on Gaza.

Moreover, he reiterated Egypt's dedication to ongoing cooperation with the UN to ensure rapid and sustainable humanitarian access.

He pointed out the necessity for the Palestinian Authority to resume its responsibilities in Gaza to support governance and long-term recovery initiatives.
