A telephone call took place between Dr. Badr Abdel-Atty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, and Mr. Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, on Friday, December 5, 2025, within the framework of ongoing coordination and consultation between the two countries regarding bilateral relations and regional and international issues of common interest.
The call addressed the close relations between Egypt and Russia, as Abdel-Atty expressed Egypt's pride in the strategic partnership between the two countries.
The call also focused on the importance of continuing joint efforts to advance ongoing cooperation projects, most notably the Dabaa nuclear power plant, as this will contribute to boosting Russian investments in Egypt and expanding bilateral cooperation.
The call addressed developments in the Gaza Strip, as Minister Atty emphasized the importance of implementing UN Security Council Resolution 2803 and proceeding with the second phase of the US President's peace plan. He stressed the need to enable the international peacekeeping force to carry out its tasks in order to consolidate the ceasefire.
Abdel Atty discussed developments in Sudan, pointing out to Egypt's efforts within the framework of the Quartet Mechanism to stop the conflict and preserve the unity and integrity of the Sudanese state.
The two ministers also discussed developments in Lebanon and Syria. The Egyptian Foreign Minister reviewed Egypt's steadfast position in support of Lebanon's unity, sovereignty, security, and stability. He also reiterated Egypt's position calling for respect for Syria's unity and territorial integrity, and rejecting any actions or interventions that could undermine the country's stability, calling for the activation of a comprehensive political process that fulfills the aspirations of the Syrian people.
The call also touched upon developments in the Iranian nuclear file, where Minister Abdel-Atty stressed the importance of continuing efforts aimed at de-escalation, confidence-building, and creating conditions that allow for a genuine opportunity for diplomatic solutions.
On the other hand, the two ministers discussed the latest developments in the Ukrainian crisis, Abdel Atty affirmed Egypt's firm stance calling for continued efforts to reach peaceful settlements to crises through dialogue and diplomatic means, in order to preserve security and stability
