AASTMT Partners with National Bank to Support Middle East Students

Today, Monday 22 June 2020, Secretary- General of the League of Arab, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, attended the opening of the activities of the Egypt Rally for Entrepreneurship Competition organized by the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) in partnership with the National Bank of Egypt.

The competition is considered as the most important one to support university students and entrepreneurs in Egypt.

It aims to spread awareness about the concepts of entrepreneurship and its importance and encourage students at the university stage to establish their own emerging projects and develop their intellectual skills, as well as young innovators and help them to convert their ideas into real projects on the ground. In its current edition, the competition has offered 50 thousand entrepreneurial training grants to qualify Arab youth.

The competition comes within the framework of the role assigned to the Academy, as one of the organizations under the Arab League to support Arab and Egyptian youth, to enhance entrepreneurial knowledge and support the ideas of projects that contribute to economic development through qualification and help them to develop ideas for real projects that contribute to creating job opportunities for these young people.

The competition comes within framework of the National Bank of Egypt strategy, as one of the oldest and most ancient Egyptian commercial banks, to support innovations.

Launching of the virtual ceremony was attended by Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Professor Dr. Khalid Abdel Ghaffar, Professor Ashraf Sobhi, Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Nevin Jamae, Minister of Trade and Industry, Ambassador Kamal Hassan Ali, Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League, and Mamdouh Afia, President of the Small Projects Group The medium, Nermin Shehab El-Din, Head of Marketing and Community Development at the National Bank of Egypt, and Wael El-Desouki, Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship at the Arab Academy.

Over his speech,  Aboul Gheit said that he was pleased to participate with the attendants today in this distinguished event, which is the most important competition for university students.

He added that and he cannot fail to thank Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar, President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport , as well as Mr. Hisham Okasha, President of the National Bank, on this good initiative aimed at adopting successful models in the fields of entrepreneurship, so that those interested in them can attain in order to reach a comprehensive economic renaissance.

Aboul Gheit said that the competition comes at a time when we need to give motivation to young people and keep abreast with developments taking place around us at various levels.

"We mostly need to encourage creativity, innovation and distinguished experiences in light of these unusual circumstances represented by the Corona pandemic."

On his part, Prof. Dr. Khalid Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, welcomed the attendees, and said that it is a pleasure to be present the leaders of joint Arab action, as well as my colleagues.

He praised the importance of entrepreneurship at the time

Abdel Ghaffar" went on to say that the crisis of COVID-19 imposed on the world community a new reality and circumstances different from the previous, adding that the world has changed its shape now and will change again. He indicated that entrepreneurship is one of the sectors affected by this pandemic.

He stressed the importance of the entrepreneurial sector regarding its ability to create new jobs and provide opportunities for young people while setting up their projects for economic development.

Abdel Ghaffar thanked the President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport for his sponsorship of this competition in partnership with the National Bank of Egypt and with the support of General Secretariat of the Arab League headed by the Secretary General, Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit.

Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, Minister of Youth and Sports, expressed his happiness to be present at the launching ceremony of that copy of the Egypt Rally for Entrepreneurship.

He praised the efforts of Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar, President of the Academy, as a pioneer of renaissance in dealing with youth and sports through the Academy.

He praised the Rally of Egypt competition because it directs the youth towards new and different sectors.

Minister of Industry and Trade Dr. Nevin Jamae expressed her happiness for attending the launching of the Egypt Rally for Entrepreneurship Competition this year.

She noted that she had attended the rally in previous versions, noting that this competition always has distinguished projects and gains participants many skills by passing them for entrepreneurship training.

She affirmed that she hopes the competition to record success and she is confident that it will produce great models.

The competition aims to convert an entrepreneur into a small, medium, and large project owner until he graduates and owns a series of projects.

On his side, Mr. Hisham Okasha, Chairman of the National Bank of Egypt, stressed that the Egypt Rally for Entrepreneurship competition is one of the most important activities aimed at directing support to university students and young entrepreneurs.

He pointed out that the interest of the National Bank of Egypt in the rehabilitation and development of youth is the true wealth of Egypt and the most important nucleus of the various development programs.

Okasha praised the continuous strategic partnership between the National Bank of Egypt and the Arab Academy.

Prof. Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar Ismail Faraj, President of the Arab Academy, hailed the launching of the competition and the announcement of scholarships for the 50 thousand trainees.

He also stressed the continued role of management of the Arab Academy, in adopting initiatives and programs aimed at propagating concepts and principles of entrepreneurship and instilling a culture of creativity and innovation in Egyptian and Arab youth.

Mamdouh Afia, Head of the Small and Medium Enterprises Group of the National Bank of Egypt, stated that the interest and adoption of the bank for the youth participating in the rally will continue through providing support and advice to these young people and entrepreneurs in how to manage their business, taking advantage of the experiences and cadres trained by the bank.

The National Bank has previously established several centers to serve entrepreneurs with the aim of providing all non-financial banking services to these young people.

Nermin Shehab El-Din, head of marketing and community development at the National Bank of Egypt, confirmed that the banks participation in the Rally of Egypt comes within the banks contributions to various areas of social responsibility through which the bank is monitored an essential aspect of his plans to support brilliant youth.

Wathel El-Desoky, Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship at the Arab Academy, reviewed various paths of the competition.

He indicated that the first track is directed at university students and targets emerging projects that help in the development of various technologies, such as robots, submarines, programming, virtual reality applications, augmented / artificial intelligence, smart technology, as well as innovative economic solutions and distinguished that serve existing challenges.

The second track targeting emerging companies and young entrepreneurs in the industrial and tourism sector.
