Paramount is set to release an untitled "A Quiet Place III" movie, the next installment in the 2018 smash hit "A Quiet Place", on March 31, 2023.

The upcoming movie is very early in development, centering around the post-apocalyptic world introduced in the first two movies. Jeff Nichols will write and direct the production, which is based on an idea from John Krasinski.

This comes as "A Quiet Place II", which opened over the Memorial Day weekend, dominated the domestic box office during the pandemic with a $57 million four-day opening.

The movie allocated in the first week $69.1M stateside, which is 3% ahead of "A Quiet Place Part I" at the same point in time. The running total of the movies stands at $432M-plus worldwide.

This is a sign that cinemas are back after more than a year of pandemic era closures, capacity restrictions, and skittish customers.

"A Quiet Place II" is written and directed by Krasinki and sees original cast members Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, and Noah Jupe reprising their roles.

The plot centers around the remaining members of the Abbott family— Evelyn (Blunt) and her children, Regan (Millicent Simmonds), Marcus (Noah Jupe), and a newborn baby— while they continue to live in silence and hide from creatures that hunt sound, this time while facing the terrors of the outside world.

“A Quiet Place Part II” was initially set to be released in March 2020. The movie’s first release date delay occurred in the aftermath of the global coronavirus pandemic. At the time, the studio opted to delay the movie during the period of time when it was still unclear how widespread or long-term the pandemic would be.

Earlier this year, Paramount delayed the post-apocalyptic thriller to Sept. 17 for a theatrical release, after the sequel was initially pushed from Sept. 4, 2020, to April 23, 2021.
