‘A Decent Life’ Initiative and other social programs, in the framework of the Egyptian state’s 2030 plan, aim to develop programs supporting the achievement of that vision and strategic goals of social justice.
The Egyptian Center for Thought and Strategic Studies released a study recently stating that the ‘Decent Life’ initiative works on raising the efficiency of the protection and support systems and expanding their impact and linking them to accurate and updated data.
“These initiatives ensure the achievement of protection and the access of various types of financial and in-kind support to those who are eligible and maximizing its societal returns,” the study manifested.
The study added that the initiative has achieved community integration by working to reduce societal and generational gaps without prejudice to equal opportunities.
It supports entrepreneurship to provide opportunities for youth employment and assimilate their energies with a focus on youth in the poorest regions, and to achieve a balance in the geographical distribution of services by stimulating developmental work at the local level.
On March 10, the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development said in a report that 255 medical convoys were organized during the first phase of the “Decent Life” initiative which targets governorates that need health services.
Three villages were provided with additional educational services. 3000 illiterates received necessary lessons, eight nurseries were founded and new 942 classrooms were built.
With regard to the rate of sanitation in a number of the targeted villages, the rate of sanitation has improved by about 64 percentage points, and 46 sanitation projects have been established.
It is noteworthy that the United Nations General Secretariat agreed to adopt and include the Egyptian presidential initiative “A Decent Life” within the organization’s “Partnerships for the Achievement of Sustainable Development Goals” platform.
The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development submitted a request to the International organization to register the presidential initiative.
A Decent Life fulfills the platform’s smart criteria as it is targeted, measurable, achievable, based on available resources, and time-bound.
It also leads to the implementation of the 2030 development plan. This is in addition to the initiative’s endeavor to localize the sustainable development goals in all its steps.
A Decent Life initiative serves as the basis for identifying multi-stakeholder partnerships and voluntary commitments, to be presented during the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development held annually at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
