A Decent Life... Achievements of 1st Phase

The first phase of 'A Decent Life' Initiative has contributed to raising the efficiency of about 380 to 400 villages nationwide, the poorest, based on poverty maps issued by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics. The Agency indicated that the poverty rate ranges from 70 percent or more.

The first phase of the Initiative targets 756 thousand families (3 million inpiduals) in 11 governorates: Marsa Matrouh, Minya, Assiut, Sohag, Qena, Luxor, Aswan, New Valley, Beheira, Dakahlia and Qalyubia.

About 23 NGOs took part in the initiative, which included various development fields such as health, sanitation, electricity, roads, and housing, at a cost of 10.5 billion pounds. A study by the Egyptian Center for Thought and Studies revealed the outcomes achieved during the first phase:

1- Establishing 100 health units at a cost of LE 450 million, and equipping them according to the new comprehensive health insurance model

2- Implementation of 1,000 road and bridge paving projects at a cost of EGP 3.825 billion

3- Implementation of 500 electricity projects at a cost of 1.425 billion pounds

4- Implementation of 141 sanitation projects at a cost of 1.550 billion pounds

5- Implementation of 150 schools at a cost of 750 million pounds, and adding 917 new classes to existing schools to accommodate 36,680 thousand students

6- Implementation of 200 drinking water projects at a cost of LE 1.5 billion

7- Implementation of 125 projects to improve the environment of covering drains and cleaning equipment, at a cost of LE 750 million

8- Implementation of 75 projects to raise the efficiency of the headquarters of local units and solidarity centers at a cost of LE 250 million

9- Establishing a project to empower women economically 147 villages

10- Roofing 16 thousand homes

11- Running 264 medical convoys in all specialties

12- Medical examination of 3 million citizens in 27 governorates

13- Conducting 12,000 general and eye surgeries

14- Providing LE 20 million pounds to finance small and micro-projects

15- The initiative allocated LE 32 billion to develop slums

16- 'A Decent Life' initiative included the development and re-planning of 354 dangerous areas, in addition to providing 262 thousand units for slum dwellers, 354 thousand housing units for low-income people, and 150 thousand units for middle-income residents

It is worth noting that “A Decent Life” is a presidential initiative that aims to reduce the burden on citizens in the neediest rural communities, through the implementation of a set of developmental programs. 

The Decent Life Foundation is an Egyptian charitable developmental institution that aims to effectively intervene to support the Egyptian citizen and work to preserve his dignity and right to live a decent life. 

The Foundation believes that the development of society and the improvement of the inpidual’s livelihood is a shared responsibility between the various bodies and institutions.
