The Korean Cultural Center in Egypt will launch its 9th edition of Korean Movie Nights at VOX Cinema, City Center Almaza on Thursday, November 21.
Under the auspices of the Korean Film Council, a public institution established to improve the quality of Korean films and promote them both in Korea and abroad, 7 new movies combining romance, drama, action, and fantasy will be showcased from 21 to 24 November.
Aiming to provide a rich experience for the Egyptian audience, 4 directors of the films scheduled to be screened were invited, in addition to a Korean filmmaker Sunhee HAN, an adjunct professor at the International Film Business Academy at the Busan Asian Film School.
The opening night, will showcase " Concrete Utopia ", followed by a panel discussion with the film's director, UM Tae-hwa. The film is set in Seoul, the capital of South Korea, shortly after a titanic earthquake destroys the city, and follows the residents of a building that miraculously remained undamaged. As they try to survive, they are faced with difficult realities.
On the second night, a romantic comedy film " Single in Seoul" will be screened at 4:30pm, and at 7:00pm, the drama film "Next Sohee" will be screened, followed by a panel discussion with the film's director, JUNG July.
On the third night, the drama film " The Girl on a Bulldozer" will be screened at 4:30pm, and at 7:00pm, the mystery thriller film "Sleep" will be screened, followed by a panel discussion with the film's director, YU Jason.
The Korean Cinema Nights will be wrapped up on November 24 with the drama film "My heart Puppy" to be screened at 4:30pm, and at 7:00pm, the action and fantasy film "Dr. Cheon and the Lost Talisman" will be screened, followed by a panel discussion with the film's director, KIM Seong-sik.
On the sidelines of the event, and in cooperation with the Academy of Arts, a roundtable seminar will be held on November 23, at 2:00pm, in which the Korean directors will tackle the rise of Korean cinema. The Academy will also host a workshop on November 26 for emerging filmmakers by Korean director YU Jason and Korean filmmaker, Sunhee HAN.
